ok so i was inspired by the sculptures of EV day and really wanted to work with this idea of a changing and expanding sculpture. in these pictures i want the viewer to see a globe and in the globe a bundle of dynamite. Yes i am "blowing up the world!" creepy but fun! kind of a pinky and the brain activity if you know what i mean. but seriously these photos are just the first in a series these are just for the viewer to see the world and dynamite and get this sense of urgency. the next photos are of the dynamite being ignited and the explosion! sugestions please!!! im worried you cant see the dynamite.
I think this is a very unique idea. The sculpture is cool. I like the fact that you took specific inspiration for the project. With your compositions I would like to see the cage centered in the photograph so that you can see all the corners. I think the first one is too close, the second one cuts off the corners, and the third needs to be pulled away a little bit. If you just work with your compositions I think you will have a very successful series.
ReplyDeleteKelly, I think these are very successful. I would consider cropping out the webbed cage a little more like the third one to really play with setting - so that we won't really know where we are.
ReplyDeleteThe image is very statically placed and i do not get the sense of urgency that you are talking about, and the only one that i focus on the dynamite on is the top image. It seems more like a sphere to me than of planet earth. You have some blacks but really not a true white and lots of greys try upping the magenta with it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can try croping the sphere in different sections to make it seem like movement? Maybe crop the four corners on indivdual photo paper andf then connect all four in presentation?
Can you levitate the cage so that it's not sitting on the floor? It's too bad you didn't make the map pieces out of photo paper, that could have been a great photo sculpture. Which would have worked for this assignment. Yes you can see the dynamite in all of the images. I prefer the dynamite to be a little hidden. This has a great raw quality to it. I can't wait to see the rest of the images.
