Alright so this is just a tiny part of my project exploring family situations without the actual people involved. I've tried to create a series of pictures that show before and afters or the events in progress but without including the actual people, because in reality, this could happen in any family, whether it's a freak incident or a common event. The family is represented in a larger view of a table, dinner ready and waiting with each individual represented by the items in their places and the placement of such items. One, in my photo example, could be a person who is very concerned with orderliness and has a need to control her surroundings and those of the people around her. The food on her plate is arranged in a linear fashion. But in the next photo, the plate is falling off the table, contents spilling, showing perhaps a reaction or a rebellion against the controlling manner. Perhaps another member of the family became frustrated with the restraints and the frustration turned into physical violence. This fight spreads to the rest of the family, affecting everything in the home. Maybe there is a child involved. The photos above show the child's play area, happy at first, and I tried to imply that the child was just there or is out of the picture playing with toys outside the frame. The next photo shows that same scene, but now the happy atmosphere has been disrupted by a single shattered plate and the stuffed animals and dolls that had been cheerfully staring off into space now gaze at the source of the disruption. I purposefully tried to blur the toys out to push attention towards the plate which (hopefully) is in focus.

Sorry about the long essay.

alright so heres just another image im trying to use these women as like your typical motherly figures doing things such as cooking and cleaning. too add on to the last post i want the man to be the puppeteer in a triangular hierarchy position so that he is clearly the controller.

final project

for my final project i wanted to explore the idea of being controlled by an external force. the imagery im using is puppeteer dolls. my idea was to have the first image be a doll house and progressively zoom into the doll house untill the viewer is looking into the house. Inside im thinking of using multiple women figures all of who are attached to strings as if controlled by someone or something. im thinking that the figure i want to control these women is going to be a man as opposed to having the man inside the house with the women.

Shadows

I feel like I've never been stumped so bad when it came to a project idea. I finally endd up with shadows as my subject. I've started playing with the shadows, and what kind of shapes I can get. Scott told me the best way to go about all of this is to just take a ridiculous mount of photos and then find links between them. I also started thinking about using the shadows cast off of bottles of alcohol to allude to alcoholism, but I need to figure out exactly what items/surfaces the shadows will be cast over to create this link.

Material Lust

Ok so for those of you who don't know i changed my idea. These prints are simply my practice using an external flash. I actually got to much light so my friend is blown out some. My idea has to do with consumerism and our culture's extreme desire for material possessions. I want to take pictures on black Friday of the horrendously long lines that extend in to darkness at five different locations and then come back later that day and take after shots of the disaster zones of those stores which have been pillaged. I would pair the two images together and allow the viewer to imagine the barbaric behavior that took place in between all for material possessions.

If the clothes fit.....

While home on Thanksgiving break, I persuaded my younger siblings to re-enact the marvelous hours we used to spend together playing dress-up and creating imaginary worlds in our head. I hope that the enthusiasm and creativity we once shared still shines through in my pictures. My work displays a renewed sense of obligated but also very genuine love for one another, much as we used to have when we were younger and the world seemed much simpler. The photos are more about the interaction between siblings and the symbolism of using the childhood game of dress up to display the familial bonds that, like dress up, never get old.
All of my pictures are shot with the same background, but our outfits and props vary from picture to picture.

Many Splendored Things

I am working with photos of plants, focusing on their incredible details, the parts of them that one might not expect or otherwise appreciate or that resemble something else. I am considering ways to present them, possibly in book form with a tiny, precious detail on a page followed by a larger picture containing that detail on the next page, in an effort to get the viewer to look closer at the mysterious and delightful things that might otherwise go overlooked. Perhaps I will include drawings also. However I present them, I suppose I will have to leave the borders visible, so Sam can see that I made them even. I have lots of great diverse pics, so I may do more than the required ten prints. Very excited!
